According to the Aztecs, Tequila is a gift from the gods. The Aztecs had made a fermented beverage from the agave plant, which the Spanish conquerors later distilled – this is how Tequila was born. Today the Sierra Tequila brand embodies traditions and a passionate nightlife in a bottle. The brand with the sombrero symbol has been the No. 1 Tequila for decades in more than 90 countries. Tequila is made exclusively from the blue agave plant ‘Tequilana Weber’. The plant’s main growing area is the Jalisco province in Mexico and the drink got its name from the small town in the region, called Tequila. Sierra Tequila is made from blue agave from the Lost Altos region and from around the town of Tequila. Agaves are chopped, cooked and pressed, then fermented with home-made yeast. The next step is two-phase distilling in copper tanks, then some of the spirit is put in stainless steel containers before being bottled as Sierra Tequila Silver. The other part of the spirit is aged in oak barrels for 9 months – this is Sierra Tequila Reposado, and another part is aged for 2 years and is called Sierra Tequila Antiguo Añejo 100% de Agave. Consejo Regulador del Tequila (CRT) strictly controls Tequila production. Sierra is one of the biggest employers in the region, for instance 125 people work only at the distilling plant. Sierra Tequila is the winner of numerous international awards and is the market leader Tequila in Hungary. Sierra Tequila Silver and Reposado are party favourites and the drink isn’t only consumed ‘ritually’ with lime and salt (Sierra Tequila Silver), but also with orange and cinnamon (Sierra Tequila Reposado) or as a Sierra Tequila Margarita cocktail. Enjoy responsibly.(x)
