Mandatory indication of the place of origin
In the middle of May members of the European Parliament put forward a motion for a non-binding resolution for introducing mandatory country of origin labelling of meat and dairy products. 422 MEPs voted with yes, 159 said no and there were 68 abstentions. The MEPs said 84 percent of EU citizens consider it necessary to indicate the origin of milk, 88 percent consider such labelling necessary for meat (other than beef, swine, sheep, goat and poultry meat, which are already covered), and more than 90 percent consider such labelling important for processed foods.
